Panellist - Cultivating Success: Addressing VET sector training amidst rapidly changing technology

.

Shayne La Combre is the CEO of the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC). PICAC is a unique facility offering world class training – in many cases with facilities without equal anywhere else in the world. Shayne was appointed CEO in December 2012, has been a Board Member since February 2011 and has been instrumental in the continuous expansion of the training centre. A second-generation plumber, Shayne has extensive plumbing industry experience, having worked for the Gas and Fuel Corporation for 19 years and several privatised gas corporations. Shayne holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, in addition to Degrees in Business and Law and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Les is a Director at ACIL Allen Consulting. After a PhD in Operations Research from the University of Melbourne, Les began his career at the State Electricity Commission in 1983. He joined KPMG in 1992 and became a Partner in its government advisory practice in 1996. Les joined the Allen Consulting Group in 2005 where he held the position of Executive Chairman from 2010 until its merger with ACIL Tasman in April 2013 to form ACIL Allen Consulting. Les has over 30 years’ experience as a senior advisor to public and private sector organisations, with a strong focus on the application of qualitative and quantitative analysis to the design and review of strategies, policies, programs and operations, at both state and Commonwealth levels. Les has worked across most government sectors, but has a specific and deep understanding of the vocational education and training system, and has worked with many organisations across Australia and internationally to assist industry with skills and workforce training and development.
